Initially introduced in 1997, the American Eagle Platinum Proofs are minted at the West Point facility. This .9995 pure platinum coins feature a portrait of Lady Liberty on the obverse, while the opposite side changes annually. Each year the U.S. Mint has offered the American Eagle Platinum Proof coins directly to collectors. From 1997 to 2008, the coins were available in one ounce, one-half ounce, one-quarter ounce, and one-tenth ounce sizes, sold individually or as part of a four coin set. However, from 2009 to present day, only a single one ounce proof coin has been offered by the U.S. Mint.
