The design for the Peace Dollar is done by the medalist Anthony De Francisci, who utilized his wife Teresa as a stand in model for the head of Liberty. Every single Peace Dollar was struck in high relief in 1921, during their first year in production. A year later, the design was somewhat altered and normal relief coins were stuck. Peace dollars continued to be struck until the full effects of the Great Depression were felt in 1929.
